I'm a Terrible Housewife

Do you ever get sick of all the dishes piling up in the sink? The endless loads of laundry to be done? The kid's toys littered everywhere? Does it feel like you just picked them up and then you have to start over again at the beginning?

This is what it is like - a day in the life of a housewife.

And I am terrible at being a housewife. My cleaning always leaves something to be desired, even when I try. I am just not that organized.

When my partner was home during the day, our house was always so much cleaner. He is better at being a housewife than I am. He knows how to get everything in its proper place.

You know those women with the perfect looking house featured on Good Housekeeping? That is never going to be me. And it frustrates me. I want the house to be clean instead of a mess, I just don't know where to put anything.

In our traditional, old German house, there is a severe lack of cupboard space. It doesn't come with built-in closets. I think we need to buy some more closets. Then our house can be a mini little Ikea.

But, until then, my housekeeping is going to leave something to be desired. I can't just keep moving a pile of mess from one room to another with nowhere to actually put it away. And I don't want to just stuff everything in the attic.

I need to go all Marie Kondo and declutter. The only problem is, I don't know what to get rid of. I don't know what we aren't using.

Should I hold up each object and ask if it brings me joy? Then get rid of a bunch of things that don't bring me joy anymore? Is that the way to go?

I'm not meant to be a housewife. I'm meant to be working, so my partner can stay home and do all of this since he is better suited to it. The only problem is, here in Germany, I have yet to be able to find a good job that fits me. He got a job, so he is out working.

One of us has to work, of course I know that. But I need help around the house. I need a housekeeper or something. Someone who knows how to put everything in its place, and get rid of the things that don't seem to have a place. Maybe that would help.

I work from home too, which doesn't really help matters. So I am trying to sit all day in a mess and be productive. It doesn't really lead well to productivity. So that's why I am writing this now instead of writing something more useful.

Can you relate? Do you feel like you would fit into an issue of 'bad housekeeping' magazine? Would you like some tips on the best frozen meals with the least packaging, so that there is less of a mess to clean up? If so, I'm your girl.
