What is the Meaning of Life?
What is the meaning of life? I spent the better part of two decades asking myself that question. Asking why we suffer so much in this life. Asking for the purpose behind it all.
I searched all the world religions for an answer, and found many, and yet none.
Those who know do not speak. Those who speak do not know.
― Lao Tsu, Tao Teh Ching
This is the way it tends to be with spirituality. It is difficult to speak about such abstract concepts that are beyond space and time in a way that we can't understand with our human minds.
Or perhaps it is just that we don't have the right words in our language to convey the concept of oneness to someone who hasn't experienced it. It is like trying to explain the ocean to someone who has only ever lived in the desert.
After all my searching, finally I gave up the spiritual search. It just hurt too much. I realized that looking for the meaning of life was making me stop being present in mine.
So I decided, the meaning of life is... to live.
I would amend that now, a decade later:
The meaning of life is to live with intention and to remember who we truly are.
How do we remember who we are, you ask? You find yourself in the silence. You find yourself every day. Because you know who you are, you have just forgotten. We have all forgotten.
We are boundless drops in this boundless ocean. We are pieces of life's heart, finding our way home. We are all light. We are all energy. We are all spirit.
There is no one way to explain it. No easy way.
It is like life itself is a body, and we are the cells in that body.
This means, we need to work together. Walk our path together. Love each other, be kind to each other, help each other. We are all part of one body, and when we work against each other, we are like a cancer destroying ourselves.
So, what do we do once we remember?
Love more. Be more kind. Give more. Be more grateful. That is all we can do. Because love is our true essence. When we remember that, we love more every day. That is what it is our nature to do.
Be well, my lovelies! May you find your way back to yourself soon. <3
