Using Affirmations and Gratitude can Help You Create a Positive Mindset

Updated: Oct 31, 2023

If you are working on personal development or self improvement, it is likely you are also working on creating a more positive mindset for yourself. By thinking positively, you are more alert and aware of opportunities coming your way. You are also more optimistic about good outcomes in life.

Affirmations

Saying affirmations first thing in the morning is a great way to start your day with a positive mindset. By getting your day off to a good start, it is easier to be in a good mood all day long.

According to Times of India,

Repeating positive affirmations is a great way to train your mind to think positively. Reading inspirational and motivational quotes on a daily basis will help you overcome negative thoughts and instill a sense of optimism in you.
When any unpleasant event occurs, approach it with a positive mindset and try to learn an optimistic lesson out of it.
Remember, your thoughts determine your feelings and actions. So whenever any negative thought comes to your mind, immediately replace it with a positive one. Even if you are in a dire state of affairs, a positive mindset will help you sail through the difficult phase easily.

By saying affirmations on a daily basis you help your mind to counteract its negative bias, which typically makes you more aware of bad things happening than good things. This is an evolutionary habit that derives from days when humans had to be constantly alert for danger. Now a days though, it isn't so helpful. This is where affirmations come in.

Gratitude

Practicing gratitude is another great way to create a more positive mindset in your life. Gratitude helps you focus on all the things that are going well in your life. By doing this, you are shifting the focus in your life to all the positive things that you already have.

Many people like to make a gratitude journal, or a daily gratitude list. You can either do this first thing in the morning, or you can do it right before you go to bed, so that you are thinking calm and happy thoughts before you go to sleep.

An Attitude of Gratitude Has Many Benefits in addition to helping you create a positive mindset. It can also be beneficial for your physical and mental health, and your relationships.

As you begin to cultivate a gratitude mindset in your daily life, you will become more mindful of all the good things happening around you every day. Often, we don't pay as much attention to the good in our lives as we should, we tend to instead focus on what is going wrong. By changing this to focus on what is going right, it helps us feel happier and more at peace.

According to Harvard Health,

In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships.

Since the use of gratitude in your life has been scientifically shown to have many benefits, I highly suggest using this practice to enrich your own life!

The value of a positive mindset

Having a more positive mindset can really make a big difference in your life. It can help you see the glass half full instead of half empty. It can teach you to make the best of a bad situation. It can help you keep in mind that bad circumstances are only temporary, and good will come your way again.

The more positive your thinking, the more positive your life will be. This is because thoughts become things. What you focus on will manifest itself in your life. So as you focus more and more on positive things and improve your outlook on life, your life itself will begin to improve.

According to WellDoing, there are many health benefits to a positive mindset as well:

  • More happiness, fulfilment and meaning in your life

As you learn to have a more positive mindset every day, you can experience all of the mental and physical benefits of doing so. This will make you a calmer, happier person who is more able to cope with life's adversities. What you believe about your life really matters. Not only does it effect your mental health, your achievement on your goals, but your physical health too.

Using the practices of affirmations and gratitude are some simple things you can do today to get started towards having a more positive mindset and a more positive life.
